BLAZING NEW TRAILS

The River Rat Brew Trail – the first brew trail in Central Pennsylvania – is a new innovative initiative from Comunbia-Montour Visitors Bureau and Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau for promoting the region to beer enthusiasts.

Research on popular tourism trends lead to the development of Central Pennsylvania’s first and only brew trail, the River Rat Brew Trail. The River Rat Brew Trail will promote area breweries to craft brew enthusiasts from near and far.

According to the Brewers Association, Pennsylvania has a strong presence in the craft brew industry, ranking seventh in the nation for the number of craft breweries. The goal of the brew trail is to attract people to the region for a weekend or vacation to discover the unique craft beers found in Central PA. The Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau partnered with the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau and nine regional breweries to form the River Rat Brew Trail. The River Rat Brew Trail is comprised of the following breweries: Bull Run Tap House and Brewery, Covered Bridge Brewhaus, Rusty Rail Brewing, Marzoni’s Brick Oven and Brewing, Berwick Brewing, Old Forge Brewing, Marley’s Brewery and Grille, Turkey Hill Brewing, and Three Beards Brewing at Spyglass Ridge when the brewery official opens.

Attracting craft beer enthusiasts to the region will benefit all local businesses as more people visit the area and spend time traveling between the breweries. “Spending on transportation, lodging, food and snacks could all rise” said Andrew Miller, Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau Executive Director. “We want the trail to become a destination for craft beer enthusiasts. It is money spent in the area that wouldn’t have been spent had they not been invited to explore the trail,” says Miller.

River Rat Brew Trail will officially open March 4-6. To promote the grand opening craft brew reporters, bloggers, and the local media will be invited to attend VIP events throughout the weekend. In the meantime visit the website and take the River Rat quiz to see which River Rat represents you.
